Info

Ray Kinsella lives on an Iowa farm with his wife Annie and daughter Karin. One day, while in the cornfield, Ray hears a voice telling him, “If you build it, he will come.” Ray is determined to build a baseball field in the cornfield. Annie lets Ray follow his dream and allows him to set aside a portion of the cornfield to erect a baseball field. Suddenly, Ray sees the great Shoeless Joe Jackson, a member of the infamous 1919 Black Sox team, standing in the middle of the field. Jackson asks Ray if he can bring the seven other Black Sox players to the ball field.  Ray hears of a writer, Terrence Mann, who named one of his characters John Kinsella, Ray’s father, who had aspirations of playing professional baseball. Ray goes to Boston and tracks down Terrence. Ray convinces Terrence to come with him to Iowa. They arrive back in Iowa to find the ball field now filled with more players, enough to have a game. One of the players is Ray’s father. Ray realizes  his dream is not only about recreating baseball history but  also about repairing his troubled relationship with his dad

“This is the kind of movie Frank Capra might have directed and James Stewart might have starred in — a movie about dreams, one goofy fantasy after another. But it has the courage to be about exactly what it promises.
