Docudrama | English | 117 minutes

Info

A true story. In 1981 San Francisco.  Chris Gardner is struggling to support his wife and son by selling portable bone-scanners to doctors. Although he succeeds in selling the scanners, it’s not enough to overcome his mounting financial problems.  His wife, Linda, is alienated and bitter. One day, while Chris is sharing a cab ride with Dean Witter manager Jay Twistle, he impresses Jay by quickly solving the Rubik’s Cube puzzle Jay was trying to figure out. Impressed, Jay urges Chris to apply as an intern with Dean Witter and learn the stock brokerage business.  When a furious Linda hears  there’s no salary being an intern, she heads for Boston where her sister’s boyfriend has a job for her in his new restaurant. Although homeless, Chris  is consumed with passing the licensing test to become a stockbroker. Chris is overwhelmed when Jay informs him of the twenty interns, he was the one picked to become   a full-time broker. This is an opportunity of a lifetime for Chris; he is determined to succeed. The unusual spelling of “Happyness” comes from a mural Chris sees on the wall outside his son’s daycare facility.
