Vic Brown and Ingrid Rothwell work in the same Manchester factory. Vic finds Ingrid attractive and they meet. An intimate relation ensues and Ingrid becomes pregnant. Vic, distraught, proposes marriage. They move in with Ingrid’s protective and domineering mother. When Ingrid has a miscarriage, Vic breaks down and comes home drunk. Vic and Ingrid must decide whether a kind of loving they didn’t anticipate will be possible.
