In 1955 Munich, has-been German film star Veronika Voss gets caught in a rainstorm. Walking nearby, Robert Krohn offers to share his umbrella with Veronika. She is impressed that Robert doesn’t recognize her. They have lunch together and fall in love. Robert begins to notice Veronika’s manic and confused state of mind which gets worse as she starts losing film roles to younger actresses. Robert discovers Veronika is being treated by Dr. Marianne Katz, a neurologist, who keeps Veronika addicted to morphine intending to bleed Veronika of her wealth. To   trap Dr. Katz, Robert has his friend Henrietta pose as a wealthy patient. When Dr. Katz becomes aware of Robert’s plot, the results become tragic.
