Info

After  World War II, Holocaust survivors are freed from the Nazi concentration camps. But they are starving, diseased, no families to support them. With restrictive quotas from nations around the world, especially the U.S. and Britain, the survivors are placed in displaced persons camps, again surrounded by barbed wire.   Their hope was one day they will have a homeland of their own.  Through super-human effort, and the unfailing support of President Truman, the State of Israel is established. The dream of the survivors comes true.

VARIETY

Mark Jonathan Harris’ stirring and accomplished film spans the period from the liberation of Nazi concentration camp survivors in 1945 to the founding of Israel as a Jewish homeland three years later. Along the way, Harris creates an intense empathy for the refugees’ experience and for aspects of their ordeal that are often ignored.
