Casualties of War
Drama | English | 113 minutes
Private Max Eriksson is grateful when his superior, Sergeant Tony Meserve, saves him during a battle with the Viet Cong. Ericsson is asked to support Meserve’s plan to kidnap and rape a local Vietnamese woman. Tensions arise when Eriksson refuses to participate in the vile acts his comrades are committing. Finally, in a bloody battle with the Viet Cong, the young woman, Tran Thi Oanh, is brutally killed. Back in San Francisco, Eriksson is on the tram when he notices a woman seated nearby who looks like Tran. He approaches her but Tran immediately sizes him up as a recovering soldier from Vietnam. Eriksson tries to tell her about what happened; she brushes him off and assures him “It was only a bad dream.”
