Group Captain Lionel Mandrake is informed by the crazy American officer General Jack Ripper that he has issued an order to preemptively attack Russian strategic targets with nuclear bombs. The U.S. President and a deranged Dr. Stranglove, a nuclear scientists, contact the Soviet leader hoping they can avert the destruction of the world. Dr. Strangelove urges the President to gather several hundred people in a underground shelter, at a 10:1 female-to-male ratio, for a breeding program to repopulate the world. The nuclear attack commences accompanied by Vera Lynn’s rendition of the song, “We’ll Meet Again.”
