Accolades
  • Academy Awards: Best Original Dramatic Score (Charlie Chaplin)
  • BAFTA Awards: Wanneer, Most Promising Newcomer (Claire Bloom)
  • New York Film Critics Circle Awards: Nominated, Best Actor (Charlie Chaplin); Best Director (Charlie Chaplin)
If LIMELIGHT as a whole is Chaplin’s farewell, then that final vaudeville act is surely his farewell to slapstick. It is a perfect hilarious gem. His final exit and belief if all things must end, then at least they should end gracefully.

Departing from most forms of Hollywood stereotype, the film has a flavor all its own and a sincere quality of a onetime great vaudevillian and his rescue of a suicidal ballerina.
