Lorna’s Silence

Info

Lorna is an Albanian woman living in Liege, an industrial town in Belgium. Lorna paid  Fabio, a mobster, to arrange the marriage with her drug-addicted husband, Claudy,   so she could become a Belgian citizen. Fabio now wants to pay Lorna to marry a Russian associate so he can obtain Belgian citizenship. But first Fabio must get rid of Claudy and divorce will take too long. Fabio wants to kill Claudy but Lorna is reluctant. She is helping Claudy come clean and compassionate feelings for him emerge. Lorna then comes up with an idea. She will bruise her arms and tell the divorce judge that Claudy has been beating her. Lorna notifies Fabio and asks him to wait a month when Lorna feels the divorce will be final. Fabio is impatient and decides to have his assistant, Spirou, kill her. But Lorna anticipates the attempt and decides to take matters into her own hands.

Why Stream This Film?

Lorna, a desperate Albanian woman with limited income, pays to marry a Belgian in order to obtain citizenship. Now the mob is forcing her to marry a Russian, in another fake marriage, so he can obtain Belgian citizenship. Only the Dardenne brothers can develop a scenario like this with both a degree of pity and compassion.

What power is here. What affecting acting by Dobroshi, Renier, and Marinne. In the cold, harsh world of the Dardennes, they feel sympathy but grant little mercy.
