Info
Jesmark, a hardworking Maltese fisherman, plies his trade just as his father and grandfather did before him. But problems arise: the few fish he now catches are not profitable; the Luzzu, his colorfully painted wooden fishing boat, is leaking; he and his wife Denise are informed their infant baby will require expensive medical care. Jesmark realizes his world of being a simple fisherman is ending. As he and his wife struggle, Jesmark has to make some tough decisions.

Sun-drenched LUZZU is an unaffected triumph with a simmering power, the type pf deceivingly familiar film that helps us sail into a place and a lifestyle most of us ignore but that are made vividly compelling in the hand of a new storyteller with classically honed sensibilities.
In LUZZU, director/writer Alex Camilleri demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of how small moments can build a sense of place: sandals on the salty floor of a fishery; a metal scraper peeling paint from a hull; a priest blessing boats for safe passage. Malta’s views are arresting, but the images Camilleri chooses would never be found in a travel brochure. In his subtle, vérité approach, he captures something special – not one man’s crisis but a community’s culture.
