Info

Emma and her daughter, Mathilde, board a commuter train in Denmark. Shortly after boarding, the train collides with a freight train and several passengers are killed, including Emma. Among the survivors are Mathilde, a statistics expert named Otto, and a tattooed, bald, creepy man. Mathilde survives. Mathilde’s father, Markus, an army soldier, takes leave, and comes home to comfort her.. Markus is visited by two mathematical geeks, Otto and Lennart. Otto was on the train and he convinces Markus, by mathematical reasoning, the train wreck was not an accident but planned by a crime  mob called the Riders of Justice. Their intention was to kill a passenger, the tattooed man, who was going to testify against them. Markus is  determined to join Otto and Lennart and avenge his wife’s death. Otto and Lennart bring in a third participant, Emmenthaler, a computer whiz with a talent for producing from data  a composite of  the mob leader. Markus, a trained soldier,  coordinates the efforts of Otto, Lennart, and Emmenthaler urging them to hunt and kill the mob boss who planned the train wreck.  Markus is  bent on revenge but matters do not always go as  planned.

Time Out film critic wrote this about Riders of Justice: “What separates the ensuing mayhem from a  thousand generic thrillers out there is an impish streak and writing that smartly juggles big ideas, mad gun battles and guilty laughs. It’s hard to mind in a movie that is enjoying itself quite this much.”

Brutal, sad, funny, and disarmingly sweet natured, RIDERS of JUSTICE is not so much revenge movie as a movie about revenge. That might seem like a distinction without a difference until you get to the end of this surprising feature and look back on every place that it has taken you.

A dandy foreign feature from Anders Thomas Jensen, RIDERS of JUSTICE is actually a pitch-black comedy about questions, coincidences and ideas that pile up faster than the body count.
