Drummer Ruben performs in a heavy metal duo with his girlfriend Lou. Suddenly, his hearing deteriorates and he can no longer hear his music. Desperate and frightened, Lou takes Ruben to a facility specializing in treating the deaf. The compassionate leader, Joe, cannot restore Ruben’s hearing but he can help Ruben to live with it. However, as Ruben hears more about the benefits of getting a cochlear transplant, he leaves Joe and the facility and opts for the expensive and excruciating procedure. His hope is to hear again. Joe warns Ruben that this is not the answer, but Ruben is full of hope as he proceeds.
