Sarah is furious, realizing her quiet time to write will be disturbed by this loud, sassy young girl. Both Sarah and Julie become infatuated with Franck, a virile waiter at the town trattoria. When it seems Franck may prefer the older Sarah, an enraged Julie kills him by smashing his head with a stone.  A shocked Sarah, helps Julie bury Franck in the garden. When Marcel, the caretaker, notices the newly turned earth, Sarah distracts him by seducing him. The end reveals a twist that is straight out of an Alfred Hitchcock film.

For American audiences, SWIMMING POOL is atypical as they come – no explosions, no car chases, no Arnold – but immensely more pleasing than films with all three of those summertime staples. Oh, those wily French.
