Two families, the Hoods and the Carvers, neighbors in an affluent Connecticut suburb, are bitterly disappointed with their unfulfilled lives. Ben Hood and Janey Carver find relief having an affair while their two teenage children, Wendy and Paul, experiment with sex. Young Mikey Carver enthralled by the ice storm that hit the area, goes outdoors to better observe. He gets hit by a falling power line and is electrocuted. The Hood and Carver families are bereft as they anguish over this tragedy. Their degenerate lifestyle will now be tested.
