Info
A 2020 adaptation of James Herriot’s endearing memoirs of his days as a veterinarian in a small village in Yorkshire, England.
In 1937, James Herriot, a recent graduate of Glasgow Veterinary College, applies for a job in Darrowby, a fictional village in Yorkshire. He is hired by the irascible but kindly town veterinarian, Siegfried Farnon. James is boarded in Siegfried’s home, run by super-efficient Mrs. Hall. Also present is Siegfried’s irrepressible young brother, Tristan, a veterinary student who has trouble passing his exams. Supervised carefully by Siegfried, James hones his skills treating a wide variety of creatures and, more importantly, begins to earn the trust of the patients. In this small village, the locals struggle to get along. James encounters a wide variety of experiences: helping a cow give birth, dealing with the wealthy, Mrs. Pumphrey, who has her own weight-reducing diet for her Pekingese dog, and even checking out the pets competing in a contest at the Darrowby Fair. James defied his mother who preferred he live in a large city and get an office job. He feels fulfilled and happy that he made the right decision.

Accolades
  • The series was such a huge success that a second series will start filming in 2021.
There’s a sense of renewed spirit with each new episode not because this is a veterinary procedural that always hits the reset button, but because it’s fashioned around people who take pride in the pursuit of improving the lives of those around them.
