The first  of the two-part series  follows the lives of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt when they were children, their courtship and marriage, and  his political start as Assistant Secretary of the Navy. Their lives take a tragic turn when Franklin contracts polio. He avoids depression through persistent encouragement from Eleanor and Louis Howe, his campaign manager.They succeed. In 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is elected to the Presidency of the United States.
