War/Series | In English | 1 season(10 episodes) | Each episode is approximately 54 minutes | Original Release: 2010

Info

Whereas the film series “Band of Brothers” focused on the men of Easy Company fighting in Europe, “The Pacific” focuses on three Marines  (Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge, and John Basilone) fighting in the Pacific Theater of Operations.  The three men belonged to the spirited 1st Marine Division that fought heroically in Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. These bloody battles, and the effects they had on the men, are graphically depicted in this series. “The Pacific” is based primarily on two memoirs: “With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa” by Eugene Sledge and “Helmet for my Pillow” by Robert Leckie.

Cast
James Badge Dale (Pfc. Robert Leckie) / Joseph Mazzello (Cpl. Eugene “Sledgehammer” Sledge) / Jon Seda (Sgt. John Basilone)

If you watch “THE PACIFIC,” it will repay you with a brutal but eloquent story that’s  less about how men fight and die than what happens to them when they fight and survive. It will show you how character and sheer, unfair randomness combine to produce cruelty and decency. And it will make you feel deeply for the men who return, tentatively coming back to peaceful towns, exploring their souls like men checking their body parts after a mortar explosion, anxiously feeling themselves out to see what’s still there.

TIME Magazine

“THE PACIFIC” is about a waste of life and potential, and a dagger often equally sharp in the heart of those who survive. There are moral decisions that matter, and by dramatizing how those decisions shaped the men who made this history, “THE PACIFIC” creates television that’s about something substantial. There’s nothing long ago or far away about that.”
David Hinckley
