After a summer romance, Sandy Olsson, an Australian exchange student, and Danny Zuco, head of the T-Birds greaser gang, are now seniors at Rydell High School. Greasers are students who are hep and cool. Sandy tells her friend Frenchy about her romance with Danny. When  Danny decides to maintain his bad-boy image, an angry Sandy storms off and starts dating Tom, the school jock.  Sandy confesses that she really loves Danny. Frenchy and the Pink Ladies greaser girls, decide to make over Sandy from a goodie two-shoes to being more of a greaser. On the last day of school, Principal Greta McGee and her assistant Blanche sob about the departing class. Danny can’t get over Sandy’s new look. He admits, this is the woman he wants. They end up together and everyone happily joins in singing the rousing Grease.
