In June,1880, a group of strangers board a stagecoach traveling from the Arizona Territory to Lordsburg, New Mexico.  Among them are  Dallas, a prostitute driven out of town because of her profession, Doc Boone, an alcoholic philosopher, Samuel Peacock, a timid liquor salesman, a pregnant Lucy Mallory traveling to join her cavalry officer husband,  and the Ringo Kid, an escaped outlaw. When the stagecoach reaches the edge of town, they pick up Henry Gatewood,  who embezzled money from his bank. Although warned of the presence of war-like Apaches along the way, the stagecoach proceeds. When Lucy Mallory is informed  her husband has been wounded,  she goes into labor. Doc Boone sobers up and with the help of Dallas, delivers the baby.  Ringo falls in love with Dallas and asks her to join him at his ranch in Mexico and get married. But first, Ringo must find a way to escape and avert going to jail.
