Five Extraordinary New Film Series

May 8, 2020Newsletter

“Movies take you right up to the edge but keep you safe.”

John Updike

Streaming a film series is a marvelous way to kill time when you are confined.  They can give you hours of pleasure,  relaxation, and even stimulation. Wouldn’t that be something a doctor would recommend? Streaming a film series has introduced a new word in our lexicon—”binging.”

So why not binge these five extraordinary film series:

Esther (“Esty”) is a 19-year old woman feeling trapped in an unhappy marriage and living in a suffocating ultra-orthodox…

The Night Manager

VARIETY took a poll listing what viewers considered their “must-have” service. Netflix, as expected, topped the list. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Netflix—49%
  • Amazon Prime Video—31%
  • Hulu—22%
  • Cable TV—15%
  • Disney Plus—15%

I found it incomprehensible that AppleTV+ did not make the top-5. Many viewers are agonizing as to what services they should have. After all, these monthly subscription costs can add up. The above should give you an idea of the services most people are watching. You  can have pretty good coverage subscribing to Netflix, Amazon, and Apple TV+. Families with  kids should throw in Disney Plus. However, I must add, that if you lean in a certain direction consider subscribing to these special-niche platforms: Broadway Shows (BroadwayHD), Documentaries (PBS Passport, HBO), Foreign Films (MHx, Acorn).
