Info
African-Americans, travelling in the United States, often carry a Green Book, which lists the hotels, motels, and restauarants that do not racially discriminate. Don Shirley, a renowned African-American pianist, needs a driver for his eight-week concert tour in the Deep South. Coincidentally, when New York’s Copacabana is closed for renovations, its bouncer, Tony Lip, contacts Don. Tony accepts the job on the condition he will be back home for Christmas. Initially they clash: Don would like Tony to be more refined while Tony resents Don’s haughty manner. Slowly Tony begins to realize the brutal discrimination a talented African-American artist endures when travelling in the South. A strong bond is formed. At the conclusion of the trip Don accepts Tony’s invitation to attend his family’s Christmas party.
