After serving five years of a thirty-year sentence in prison, Carlito Brigante is released because his lawyer and friend, David Kleinfeld, found a legal discrepancy in his case. After his release, Carlito decides to retire, live a clean life, and rekindle his romance with Gail, a dancer who moonlights as a stripper. Unfortunately, Carlito and Kleinfeld get sucked into a sour deal with Benny Blanco, a shady con man. Carlito tries to escape with Gail, but will he really be able to retire or will his past lead to tragedy?
