Tang Shuisheng, a naive and provincial teenager from rural China, arrives in Shanghai to work for his uncle, also named Tang, a notorious crime boss. After witnessing a fatal gang fight, Shuisheng is told to assist Xiao Jingbao, a cabaret singer, his uncle’s mistress. Shuisheng begins to discover the depth and darkness of the enemies circling the Tang family. Ultimately, Shuisheng becomes trapped in a life of crime, betrayals, and tragedy.
