In the 19th-century Chinese Qing dynasty, Li Mu Bai, a renowned swordsman, decides to follow another path. He asks his fellow warrior, Yu Shu Lien to return his Green Destiny sword to the legendary Sir Te. When Shu Lien arrives at the home of Sir Te, he meets Jen, Sir Te’s daughter. Shu Lien likes Jen but the relationship is set aside as a masked thief steals the sword.  Shu Lien encounters serious obstacles as he pursues the thief and the attractive Jen.
