Carousel is a tragic romance between Julie Jordan, a naive but loving factory worker, and Billy Bigelow, a ne’er-do-well carnival barker. They fall instantly in love and marry. Billy, fired from his job, becomes desperate when Julie tells him she’s pregnant. The nefarious Jigger convinces Billy the way out of his difficulty is to join him in a hold up. The crime is botched; Billy is killed. Julie is bereft but consoled by her friend Carrie. Billy’s guardian angel at the gate to heaven arranges a way for Billy to observe Julie and their now grown daughter. It’s painful for Billy. Both are struggling dealing with neighbors who can’t forgive Billy for what he’s done. Billy tries explaining to Julie and convince her – despite everything, he always loved her.
