The Pajama Game

1957 | Musical | 101 minutes | English

Based on the Tony-winning Broadway musical by the same name, the story begins with the arrival of Sid, the newly-hired superintendent of the Sleeptite Pajama Factory. Sid’s unexpected relationship with Babe, a worker in the factory and an active member of the employee union’s leadership, can get messy. The workers are insisting on a raise of seven-and-a-half cents an hour. Sid represent management and Babe represents the workers. Sid fires Babe when she intentionally destroys machinery. Sid now becomes suspicious that the factory manager may be hiding something and convinces an employee to give him the key to the office. Sid discovers that the manager was cooking the books, becomes an advocate for higher wages, and works to win back Babe. Words and music by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross; directed by Stanley Donen and George Abbott; choreography by Bob Fosse.

Leonard Maltin's MOVIE GUIDE

If ever a musical comedy has been plucked off the Broadway stage and re-created as a movie with scarcely a passage or a principal performer changed, it is THE PAJAMA GAME which swept like a pack of noisy pickets into the Music Hall yesterday.
